StandUp Wireless
Free Smartphone, 500 minutes voice, unlimited texting, plus 500 MB data!
NOTE: StandUp Wireless is now servicing previous Blue Jay Wireless customers.
Standup Wireless is one of a number of smaller companies that are certified by the U.S. federal government's Lifeline phone service program to provide free cell phones and free minutes to residents of Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Standup Wireless has recently upgraded their plans to be competitive with other modern Lifeline cell phone plans.
Now, their plan gives residents of every state they serve 500 minutes of voice, unlimited texting and 500 MB of data every month. No, voice is not unlimited, but given people text more than they call these days, does it really matter?
The usual complement of features are provided on the phone: caller id, voicemail, and call waiting. And they do include free nationwide long distance. International calls are allowed, but chargeable.
Qualifying for a StandUp Wireless phone is easy if you are one of the many financially disadvantaged these days. In general, any of the following qualifies you:
§ Low Income Home Energy Assistance Plan (LIHEAP)
§ Medicaid
§ Board of Education Free Lunch Program
§ Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
§ Food Stamps
§ Section 8 Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
§ Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
§ Income at or below 135% of federal poverty level* (proof required)
